Final Screen printing development :

Here is the photographed images of me developing my samples into final designs.I started my final development by still being very experimental.I began to create my backgrounds to my final screen printed designs by using various methods i used whilst sampling to create successful finals.I used a mixture of discharge and illuminated discharge , i then added the discharge into a water spray so when i sprayed onto the fabric it would give the idea of pattern and texture to the fabric, bleaching away certain bits of the dyed fabric this will add depth and tonal qualities also used elastic bands and a dry roller to use the discharge and illuminated discharge spontaneously to give the effect of a busy background.The images below show the design being created and then the design after it has been ironed and steamed to show the full effect.I really like how the colours have combined to create different shades.

Overlaying :
As i have only created 4 screens , i thought it was imported to experiment with overlaying my designs to create another design which will fit more with my jumbled theme.To do this i decided to use my kodatraces designs which i could layer to see how they would look.I tried this in various compositions and then transferred these ideas onto fabric experimenting further with methods and techniques.

Colour :
Whilst in the print room i have tried to keep my colours in line with my colour concept boards.I think i have used about 9 dye baths and then used about 8-9 colours to use whilst printing.I have learnt its important to keep to a colour way which blends but doesn't appear boring and repetitive so when i develop onto major project i will maybe use about 15 colours varying with print techniques . Just before i finished my last pull through i decided to do one last pull though with each screen onto paper using the remaining colours i have used throughout my printing , i put each colour at the top of the screen and pulled it through simultaneously to create a rainbow effect.These images below show colours i have been using in the print room , a pile of experimental samples, and finally the screen which i used to pull my remaining colours through my designs showing a beautiful autumn pallet.

Vintage Citron van - Durham

Every sunday morning Durham holds a market in the city centre , selling local food produces and various other items.I really love this vintage citron van which has been converted into a mobile catering business serving french style coffee and crepes , the citron van is typically French and the owner of this van has created a slick contemporary look to the exterior and interior making the van  eye catching and interesting piece of design.A coffee and a crepe is a perfect winter warmer.

Developing & Digital Finals

With only a week to go till deadline i really needed to make some decisions and choose which designs i want to have as my final collection.As i have missed 2 weeks of the project i have found it difficult to catch up but i think now i am starting to see the end result.Here is a photographs of my final digital out outcomes from these i can select and reject which designs are going to be finals, the rest i will experiment and enhance in the print room, this will widen my development skills and hopefully get me more prepared for final major project.

Devore Sampling : Experimenting with over printing and one pull through screens

I really liked the one pull through of this Devore sample, as the pattern is so busy it keeps the design interesting .As my collection theme is ' Jumbled ' i am hoping to combine various fabrics and techniques to make a interesting finished collection.Mixture of tonal colours reflecting a autumn colour pallet.

Over the weekend i have sorted all my development sketchbook into a formal order from this i can get into the print room and know exactly what i need to do to each piece of fabric as all last week i was so unsure of which techniques to use.All i need to do is keep to my to do list to tie up all the loose ends and hopefully i can finish my project happy.

Dying & experimenting with fabric

As i am also screen printing as part of this project , i needed to get into the print room and start creating a colour pallet which will also complimented my digital designs and overall my concept boards.I began by mixing up about 7/8 dye baths of colours which are used on my colour pallet from there i cut sample sized of my fabric which are ; Silk twill , Habita silk ,Cotton devore, Crep de and orangza by creating these samples i can add 5 pieces of fabric in the same dye bath and see which fabrics work the best with each colour dye.This is a good way to test as some fabrics can create a completely different colour than another.Once i washed and dried the fabrics i colour selected the best fabric and shade of colour.I then wanted to experiment with more busy background fabrics which would fit my theme much better so keeping the same dye baths i dip and re dyed fabrics to see if they improved the look .I then went on to using a more spontaneities technique by wetting the fabric and then just pouring dye on top mixing colours, also tying the fabric causing a tie dye effect.I also experimented with marbling , marbling fabric and paper these were a good effect but i don't think the colours linked.To finish my background experimentation , i took a selection of fabrics and then used discharge and illuminated discharge to bleach the background colour also add tonal qualities. The last experiment i did was with Devore cotton i did 3 pull through of my screen in Devore these proved very successful and i think i will develop this idea further.

Minor project - Digtial Development

As i was on work experience , i missed the first stages of development for my project , even though i planned to do a lot of college work while on work experience i really didn't have much time and didn't really feel motivated to do .Over the weekend i did try and develop some photoshop designs.I scanned all my visual work previous of work experience and i began to develop some ideas on photoshop initially i did not like any of my first designs but once i got into it, i started to create designs which could maybe be created into a  potential collect of work , it was also better going back to college with something rather than nothing.When i came back to college i created more designs which i thought looked more relative to my theme.So i began to develop them more printing copies as i went to see how the colours looked in paper.I then sent my designs to get digitally printed onto a light silk twill fabric . I sent 30 samples which varied in colour ways and size.Once i printed these samples off i could then pic which were most successful and proceed to get my prints printed samples size about A4 A3.

Heres some photographs off my digital print samples that i have created,packing the fabric up so it is ready to be steamed & hung to dry.

I am quiet pleased with some of my prints so from these samples so i can now  pick which designs i want to use for my final A2 collection.I will also decide which designs i can enhance further  using screen printing techniques when appropriate.

Hampshire - Romsey

Whilst i was on work experience at mudpie i was very lucky to be situated in such picturesque surroundings.I managed to take some photographs when on the drive to and from Mudpie , there not the best photographs as they were on my phone but you can get the idea of the rural surrounds.I was also very lucky to be staying the most gorgeous bed and breakfast with a lovely retired couple.The house its self is beautiful and they also let me photograph there garden .
I have also started water marking my photographs just to prevent copyright.
